CHAPTER 6: ASYNCHRONOUS DTE CONFIGURATION

Modem Pooling Applications

The description of the 7500 in this chapter is directed at the technical user responsible for
maintaining the modem pool. A description of the typical user's interaction with the 7500 is also
included.
The most common application for the 7500 in the DTE configuration is in a modem pool. In this
application, the 7500 serves as an interface between the digital network and the analog network. As
the system diagram (Figure 22) illustrates, the 7500 receives the digital data, either circuit or packet
switched, and sends it across an EIA interface to a modem. The modem receives the data coming across
the EIA interface and sends it through the analog network to a remote modem. The reverse happens to
data coming from the other direction.
