In hazardous locations, the laptop must be connected through the barrier board. No direct connection to the LevelMaster is
permitted.
IMPORTANT NOTES: Electronics boards can be removed from the enclosure for configuration purposes if
remaining at the top of the tank during configuration is not possible or safe. The cables designed to connect the
laptop to the board have batteries which power the LevelMaster during local connection, eliminating the need for
an external power source. If boards are removed from the LevelMaster for configuration, they can be reinstalled for
final wiring and verification. Consider removing the board from the enclosure for convenience during initial
configuration. The removable terminal connectors can be easily unplugged and inserted back in without disturbing
the wiring previously completed.
Preparing cables for local connection
The cables required for connecting the laptop to the LevelMaster depend on the board version. Table 4: Cables and adapters for
direct connection to the LevelMaster, describes several options. The pictures of the assembly of the cables is replicated in this
section for convenience. The converter cables, adapters, and USB adapters must be all be connected to be able to attach the
laptop to the LevelMaster. The cables and adapters described in this section are included as examples. Additional cable lengths
and variations are available for purchase from ABB.
To assemble the cable and adapters for connection:
1.
Connect the RS-485-to-RS-232 converter to the cable adapter.
