2.5 Confirming Proper Installation

After connecting the PowerStorm 1000 graphics subsystem to the AlphaStation system,
perform the following procedure to confirm proper installation:

The PowerStorm 1000 graphics subsystem must always be powered on before
booting the AlphaStation system. If this is not done, the AlphaStation system
will not boot and appear to not have a video module.

1. Power on the PowerStorm 1000 graphics subsystem deskside chassis.
2. Refer to the AlphaStation system documentation to power on and boot the
AlphaStation system.
3. If the PowerStorm 1000 graphics drivers are not installed on the AlphaStation system,
install them and reboot the AlphaStation system. See Section ?.?? for the software
installation information.
For the entry and full PowerStorm 1000 graphic subsystems, console messages will be
displayed on the graphics monitor.
For the high resolution PowerStorm 1000 graphic subsystem, a VGA compatible
monitor must be connected to the VGA Module in the AlphaStation system in order to
see the console messages. Console messages will not be displayed on the graphics
monitor.
4. If errors are reported, take the appropriate action or contact DIGITAL Support.
5. Log on the system and open several Windows.
6. Start one or more graphics applications.
7. Refer to Chapter 3 and run diagnostics if desired or if problems are detected.
