OXIVARIO and ORTHOVARIO Optional features

Intended Use

The washer-disinfector can be
equipped (or retro-fitted) for the
OXIVARIO process, with two additional
dispensing pumps and an intermediate
reservoir for hydrogen peroxide solution
(H
O
solution). In this case, the DOS 2
2
2
dispensing system will dispense the
H
O
solution.

For the ORTHOVARIO process, the
DOS 4 dispensing system must be
equipped (fitted) with a special
dispensing pump for a special tenside
detergent.
The OXIVARIO PLUS, OXIVARIO and
ORTHOVARIO programs are available
for the special processes.
These programs are factory-assigned
to program slots 51 to 53.
The OXIVARIO process uses active
oxygen release under alkaline
conditions. The detergent used in this
process must be tenside-free, with a
pH value between 11 and 11.5.
The ORTHOVARIO process uses a
material-tolerant tenside detergent in
the first cleaning phase, and active
oxygen release in the second phase,
produced at a pH between 10.0 and
11.0 at a slightly higher temperature of
65°C.

Applications

The OXIVARIO process uses alkaline
cleaning, and is designed to meet the
special demands involved in the
preparation of surgical instruments.
This process is especially suited to the
preparation of surgical instruments,
76
i. e., from HF (high frequency) surgery,
orthopaedic surgery, instruments that
dry out during long delays until
preparation, and for instruments
affected by antiseptics.
The OXIVARIO PLUS process is
designed to prevent iatrogenic prion
transmission (vCJK).
The cleaning processes are gentle
enough for minimally invasive
instruments, including ophthalmic, as
long as the manufacturer has approved
alkaline cleaning methods for them.
However, this process is not suitable for
anodized aluminum. The materials in
titanium alloys, e.g., implants, may vary
in terms of material tolerance.
Colour-coding can change, resulting in
errors. Consult the manufacturer for
verification.
The ORTHOVARIO program is
designed for the material-tolerant
preparation of alkaline-sensitive
instruments made of aluminum, in
particular for instruments used in
orthopaedics, e.g., for motor systems.
The oxidative effects of this process
make it unsuitable for titanium alloys,
in particular for colour-coded
implants.
,
The processes clean so
thoroughly that, to prevent
damages, instruments with metal
surfaces sliding across each other
(e.g. scissors, forceps) must be
carefully attended to with suitable
medical grade lubricant immediately
following preparation.
