2. Check for smooth operation. Turn the pin-
ion counterclockwise to check that it
operates smoothly and turn it clockwise
to check that it locks in place.

Disassembling the starter motor

1. Remove the magnet switch a and spring
b.
2. Slide the pinion stopper c down, and
then remove the clip d.

3. Remove the pinion stopper c, pinion e,
and spring f.

4. Remove the bolts g, and then disassem-
ble the starter motor.

5. Remove the rubber seal h, lever i, and
pinion shaft assembly j.

6. Remove the stator k.
7. Remove the armature l with the brush
holder assembly m from the bracket n.
