TIP:
The valve spring can be installed in any
direction.
3. Compress the valve spring, and then
install the valve cotters g.

4. Lightly tap the valve spring retainer with a
plastic hammer to set the valve cotters g
securely.
g

Installing the cylinder head

1. Install a new gasket and the cylinder
head, and then tighten the bolts to the
specified torques in the sequence num-
bers (a, b, · · ·). Apply engine oil to the
cylinder head bolts before installation.
NOTICE: Do not reuse the cylinder
head gasket, always replace it with a
new one.
Cylinder head bolt a–j (M10):
Cylinder head bolt k–t (M8):
TIP:
Tighten the M10 bolts to the specified
torques in 2 stages first, and then make a
mark a on the M10 bolts and the cylinder
head, and then tighten the bolts 90° from the
mark.
2. Install the camshafts, driven sprockets,

1st: 19 N·m (1.9 kgf·m, 14.0 ft·lb)
2nd: 37 N·m (3.7 kgf·m, 27.3 ft·lb)
3rd: 90°
1st: 14 N·m (1.4 kgf·m, 10.3 ft·lb)
2nd: 28 N·m (2.8 kgf·m, 20.7 ft·lb)
and timing belt. See "Installing the timing
belt, driven sprocket, and camshaft" (7-
30).
