Removing the starter motor
Before removing the starter motor, make
sure to disconnect the negative battery
terminal.
1. Remove the starter motor from the power
unit. See "Removing the starter motor"
(7-21).
Checking the starter motor pinion
1. Check the pinion teeth. Replace the pin-
ion if cracked or worn.
2. Turn the pinion counterclockwise to
check that it operates smoothly and turn
it clockwise to check that it locks in place.
Disassembling the starter motor
1. Remove the magnet switch "1" and
spring "2".
2. Push the pinion stopper "1" down, and
then remove the clip "2".

3. Remove the pinion stopper "1", pinion

4. Remove the stator assembly "1".
