the armature l from the brush holder

9. Remove the E-clip p, and then remove
the clutch assembly q from the pinion
shaft r.

TIP:
Push the clutch assembly q completely
down onto the pinion shaft r in direction a,
and rotate it one spline in direction b, and
then remove it in direction c.

Checking the starter motor

1. Check the commutator. Clean with
600–grit sandpaper and compressed air
if dirty.
2. Measure the commutator diameter a.
Replace the armature if below specifica-
tion.
a
Commutator standard diameter a:
29.0 mm (1.14 in)
Wear limit: 28.0 mm (1.10 in)
3. Measure the commutator undercut b.
Replace the armature if below specifica-
tion.
Commutator standard undercut b:
0.8 mm (0.03 in)
Wear limit: 0.2 mm (0.01 in)
