Making low-level measurements

The Model AG-GND Grounding Cord is to be used when the measuring system lacks an earth ground
and low-level signals are to be measured. Laptop computers normally are isolated from earth ground
even when the charger is plugged in as a result of transformer isolation. When making low-level
measurements, it is necessary to remove all sources of electrical interference by grounding the system.
In order to add the missing ground, Radcal offers the AG-GND grounding cord that allows one to
conveniently earth-ground the computer by plugging one end into the ground pin of a standard 3-pin AC
socket and the other end into an available USB port. Only the shell of the USB port is connected.
Note that this plug is intended for use with standard 3-pin North American sockets only. For other plug-
socket arrangements (or if used with an extension cord) it must be used with an appropriate adapter that
properly grounds the center pin of the plug.
A grounding wire with alligator clips is also provided that can be used when an AC receptacle is not
accessible. The alligator clip can be attached to a grounded cabinet or conduit and the other end
attached to one of the unused connector's shell.
