FC-AL
fibre-channel arbitrated loop
FCA
fibre-channel adapter
flash drive
A data drive that is a solid-state memory device instead of a rotating hard disk drive. A flash
drive can also be called a solid-state drive (SSD).
flash module drive
A high-speed data drive that includes several flash memory (SSD) modules on a single PCB.
(FMD)
free capacity
The amount of storage space (in bytes) that is available for use by the host systems.
FV
fixed-size volume
GID
group ID
GUI
graphical user interface
HA
high availability
HBA
host bus adapter
HDD
hard disk drive
host failover
The process of switching operations from one host to another host when the primary host fails.
host group
A group of hosts of the same operating system platform.
host mode
Operational modes that provide enhanced compatibility with supported host platforms. Used
with fibre-channel ports on RAID storage systems.
host mode option
Additional options for fibre-channel ports on RAID storage systems. Provide enhanced functionality
for host software and middleware.
HP XP7 Storage
HP XP7 Storage
initial copy
An initial copy operation is performed when a copy pair is created. Data on the primary volume
is copied to the secondary volume.
initiator port
A fibre-channel port configured to send remote I/Os to an RCU target port on another storage
system. See also RCU target port and target port.
int.
interval
internal volume
A logical volume whose data resides on drives that are physically located within the storage
system. See also external volume.
IO
input/output
IOPS
I/Os per second
IPv4
Internet Protocol, Version 4
IPv6
Internet Protocol, Version 6
JNL
journal
JNLG
See journal group (JNLG).
journal group
In a Continuous Access Journal system, journal groups manage data consistency between multiple
(JNLG)
primary volumes and secondary volumes. See also consistency group (CG, CTG).
journal volume
A volume that records and stores a log of all events that take place in another volume. In the
event of a system crash, the journal volume logs are used to restore lost data and maintain data
integrity.
In Continuous Access Journal, differential data is held in journal volumes on until it is copied to
the S-VOL.
LCU
logical control unit
LDEV
logical device
LDKC
See logical disk controller (LDKC).
loc.
location
logical device
An individual logical data volume (on multiple drives in a RAID configuration) in the storage
(LDEV)
system. An LDEV may or may not contain any data and may or may not be defined to any hosts.
Each LDEV has a unique identifier or "address" within the storage system composed of the logical
disk controller (LDKC) number, control unit (CU) number, and LDEV number. The LDEV IDs within
