Procedure
1.
Open the Logical Devices window.
In Command View Advanced Edition:
a.
On the Resources tab, click Storage Systems, and then expand All Storage Systems.
b.
Expand the target storage system, right-click Volumes, and then select System GUI.
In Remote Web Console:
a.
Expand the Storage Systems tree.
b.
Click Logical Devices.

In the Logical Devices window, select the LDEV ID of the LDEV you want to format.
3.
Block the LDEV to be formatted.

on blocking externals volumes, see the HP XP7 External Storage for Open and Mainframe
Systems User Guide.
4.
Click More Actions and select Format LDEVs.
5.
In the Format LDEVs window, select the format type from the Format Type list, and then click
Finish.
6.
Note the settings in the Confirm window, enter a unique Task Name or accept the default,
and click Apply.
If Go to tasks window for status is checked, the Tasks window opens.

Formatting all LDEVs in a parity group

Use this procedure to perform Normal formatting on all of the volumes (LDEVs) in the parity group
you select
Prerequisites
The Storage Administrator (Provisioning) role is required to perform this task.
Before you format the LDEVs in the selected parity group, make sure that all the LDEVs in the parity
group have been blocked.

1.
Open the Parity Groups window.
In Command View Advanced Edition:
a.
On the Resources tab, click Storage Systems, and then expand All Storage Systems.
b.
Expand the target storage system, right-click Parity Groups, and then select System GUI.
In Remote Web Console:
a.
Expand the Storage Systems tree.
b.
Click Parity Groups.
2.
In the Parity Groups window, select an Parity Group ID of parity group with the LDEVs you
want to format.
You can select multiple parity groups that are listed together or separately.
3.
Block the LDEV to be formatted.

4.
Click More Actions and select Format LDEVs.
