Appendix B - Terms
PPP
PPP
(Point-to-Point
Protocol)
provides
a
standard
mode
for
transmitting
data
message
over
the
point-to-point
link
(like
telephone line).
PPPoE
The PPPoE (Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet) of PPP provides
point-to-point connection in Ethernet (user authentication required)
and sets up the user-oriented session channel.
PPTP
As a virtual private network protocol, PPTP ensures reliable
transmission of the PPP encapsulated packet at the IP layer.
Protocol
It specifically refers to communication protocol, which is a set of
rules defining the data formats observed between network devices,
so they can communicate with each other, transmits, sends and
receives data between them.
Router
Router implements connection of different types of networks through
the remote WAN. Generally, the ISP line and the peer router of WAN
or other network devices are interconnected to realize long-haul data
transmission. During data transmission, the path to the destination
is selected according to the address information in the packet, and
this process is called "routing".
SPI
SPI (Stateful Packet Inspection) inspects both the packet header and
the packet content. It can specify the packet source and destination
address and other more information. In addition, the state
inspection firewall also closes the port, till the specific port request
comes.
