Using brain transplant to restore a
database
A brain transplant restores a station's database from an error condition, such as a
corrupted file, which prevents the station from operating correctly. A brain
transplant is the process of copying and rebuilding the station's unique database
from the console, where it has been continuously updated and saved with every
poll of the station. A complete brain transplant involves taking the station out of
service for a period of time. Depending on the station's database, this could take
15 minutes to two hours or longer.
Any number of error conditions at the station could signal the need for a brain
transplant, but you should always consult with a CareFusion representative prior
to initiating one, because some error conditions might be the result of something
less dramatic and could be corrected with more conventional means.

Checking the communication status of a station

The following procedure explains how to check the station's communication
status.
1. In the menu bar, select
The Communications Status dialog box appears. For more information, see
Communication status on page 131.
A value other than 0 in the column labeled FC (fail count) indicates a
potential communications problem between the console and the station.
If the FC is 0 and Last Poll and Last Link are each within a few seconds of the
current time, you might need to transplant data back to the station.
2. Contact the TSC for assistance.
If the station has not experienced catastrophic data loss, there are brain
transplant options which restores the data for a particular table that might
have missing data. Depending on circumstances, you might be advised to use
one of these other choices to update or correct a specific piece of the database,
or if the data loss is more severe, you might be advised to do a complete brain
transplant.
