Problems
Elongated image
Image tinged yellow.
Too bright image

Viewing is poor (too
much or too little
contrast, or poor
resolution).
Cause
Nosepiece is not properly installed.
Nosepiece is not rotated to a clickstop
position.
Stage is slanted.
Microscope is not installed on a flat
surface.
NCB11 filter is not used.
Lamp voltage is too low.
Lamp voltage is too high.
Lamp voltage is too low.
ND filter is in the optical path.
Aperture diaphragm is stopped down
too far.
Polarizer or analyzer in the optical path
exists during bright-field microscopy.
Halogen illumination is used on dark
sample.
Objective is not suitable for
microscopy.
Ambient light is too bright (for dark-
field or epi-fl microscopy).
Dirt or dust exists on the lens, eyepiece,
filter, or sample.
Objective is not suitable for the
microscopy.
Aperture diaphragm is stopped down
too far.
Filter cube is not suitable for the
specimen (for epi-fl microscopy).
Cover glass is not attached (for epi-fl
microscopy).
Fluorescence is emitted by slide glass
(during epi-fl microscopy).
VI. Troubleshooting
Countermeasures
Install it securely.
Rotate to a clickstop position.
Mount it securely.
Install it on a flat surface.
Place the NCB11 filter in the optical
path.
Raise the voltage with the brightness
control knob and adjust the brightness
with the ND filters.
Adjust the brightness with the
brightness control knob. Or place ND
filters in the optical path.
Adjust the brightness with the
brightness control knob.
Remove the ND filter from the optical
path.
Open to a suitable size.
Remove them out of the optical path.
Replace the light source to more bright
one.
Use the specified objective.
Darken the light.
Clean it.
Use the specified objective.
Open to a suitable size.
Use a filter cube suitable for the
specimen.
Attach cover glass. (It is not required
for NCG objective, however.)
Use a nonfluorescent slide glass.
