10.0 Mechanical Troubleshooting

10.1 Stock

Problem
Stock will not roll
smoothly or the stock
jumps.
Stock will not track
straight through the
printer.
Stock jams in bridge
blade rollers or knife
area.
Classification: Avery Dennison - Public
There are hazardous moving parts in the printer. Covers must be
in place when energized. Service should be performed only by
trained service personnel.
Probable Cause
1) Web guides are incorrectly
adjusted.
2) Unwind back tension to high.
3) Print head pressure is too
high.
4) Printer is not threaded
correctly.
1) Web guides are too loose.
2) Material is telescoping of the
unwind.
3) Machine not on a level
surface.
4) Printer is threaded incorrectly.
1) Knife not cutting the full width
of stock.
2) Nip rollers are not turning.
IF THE RECOMMENDED CORRECTIVE ACTIONS DO NOT
RESOLVE THE PROBLEM (S), CONTACT YOUR LOCAL
AVERY DENNISON REPRESENTATIVE.
Corrective Action
1a) Be sure stock roll is as flat as possible
and does not extend over core.
1b) Adjust web guides to touch stock roll, but
do not pinch the roll.
2a) Reduce the unwind back tension through
the virtual panel.
3a) Reduce the print head pressure.
4a) Check threading diagram and correct as
needed.
1a) Adjust web guides to touch outer edges of
stock with the minimum pressure required.
2a) Remove stock supply and tension roll on a
flat surface by pulling on the end of the
material and holding the core from turning.
3a) Level the printer or work table.
4a) Check threading diagram and correct.
1) Refer to section 6.4, Knife Shear
Adjustment.
1) Be sure the nip roller is free to rotate and
moves easily in the bearing slots. Check for
a loose drive gear.
