Installing a lightning protector for a network port
(optional)
NOTE:
HP recommends that you install a lightning protector for 10/100/1000 Mbps RJ-45 copper Ethernet
ports.
Before installing the lightning protector, read the instructions that come with the lightning protector.
A lightning protector is not provided with the switch.
If part of the network cable of a 10/100/1000 Mbps RJ-45 copper Ethernet port must be routed
outdoors, connect a lightning protector to the cable before you plug the cable into the port.

Installation procedures

To install a port lightning protector:
Use a double-faced adhesive tape to stick the lightning protector onto the switch chassis, and make

sure it is as close to the grounding screw of the switch as possible.
Measure the distance between the protector and the grounding screw of the switch, cut the ground

wire of the protector as appropriate, and securely tighten the ground wire to the grounding screw
of the switch.
Use the multimeter to measure whether the ground wire of the protector makes good contact with

the grounding screw of the chassis.
Insert the outdoor network cable into the protector's Surge end, and insert the cable connected to

the switch into the Protect end. Examine the indicators on the lightning protector to verify that the
connection is correct.
