For certain applications in multi-user operation, it may be necessary to maintain the project
data on a central server computer and process the data from several client computers.
For the required Sybase server to run on the central server computer, a user must also be
logged on to the central server computer in accordance with the specification above.
To remove this requirement, you can set up the Sybase server as a service with the
"setsybserv.exe" application.
Setting up a Sybase server as a service
To set up the ES as a service, you must proceed as follows:
● Start the "setsybserv.exe" application with advanced rights (run as administrator) in the
following directory:
– For 32-bit operating systems: "%CommonProgramFiles%\Siemens\S7UBTOOX\"
– For 64-bit operating systems: "%CommonProgramFiles(x86)%\Siemens\S7UBTOOX\"
● You will see the currently valid setting in the dialog box. By selecting the other option in
each case, you can switch between the two configurations "Sybase server as service" and
"Sybase server as user application".
● Then, set up the access rights to the shared folder in which you will make your project data
available on the central server computer for multi-user operation:
– Insert the "SYSTEM" user in the share permissions and allow "full access".
● Restart the computer in order for the settings to take effect.

With the "Sybase server as service" configuration, the "Configure SIMATIC Workstation" dialog
can no longer be operated in the context of a logged-on user.
