Time synchronization

System-wide Time Synchronization
To obtain process data that can be evaluated, all the components of the process control system
need to work with an identical, synchronized time of day. This allows you to assign messages
in the correct sequence over time. The result is then consistent regardless of the time zone in
which the messages originate.
One system component must be the clock for all other components so that all process control
system components work with an identical time. The PCS 7 component that functions as timer
is referred to as the time master. Components such as the central plant clock SICLOCK or an
OS server can be configured as the time master.
