CUTTING
HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT
Turn the cutting height adjustment crank (A, Figure 35)
cHockwise to raise the mower deck and countercHockwise
to Hower it, Hf t he crank is difficuHt to turn, thoroughHy
dean and Hubncate it,
PTO CLUTCH
ADJUSTMENT
See CHECK / ADJUST PTO CLUTCH in the
Maintenance Section,
BRAKE ADJUSTMENT
1, Stop the unit, turn the ignition OFF, set the ground
speed Heversto PARK positions, and wait for aHH mov-
ing parts to stop,
2, Locate the brake rod (A) and adjustment nut (B),
4, Measure the parking brake spring, Htscompressed
Hength,with the ground speed Heversin their PARK
positions shouHd be 3" (7,62cm), Adjust the spring
Hength by turning the adjustment nut (B), if necessary,
BATTERY CHARGING
Keep open flames and sparks away from the
battery; the gasses coming from it are highly
e×pJosive. Ventilate the battery wett during
charging.
A dead battery or one too weak to start the engine may
be the resuHtof a defect in the charging system or other
eHectricaH component,
Hfthere is any doubt about the
cause of the probHem, contact a Sears Parts & Repair
Center, Hf y ou need to repHace the battery, foHHow the
steps under CHeaning the Battery & CabHes in the
ReguHar Maintenance Section,
To charge the battery, foHHow the instructions provided by
the battery charger manufacturer as weHH as aHH w arnings
incHuded in the safety ruHessections of this book, Charge
the battery untiHfuHHy c harged (untiHthe specific gravity of
the eHectroHyte is 1,250 or higher and the eHectroHyte tem-
perature is at Heast60 ° F), Do not charge at a rate higher
than 10 amps,
ENGINE ADJUSTMENTS
The engine is designed to deHiver the correct perform-
ance under aHH operating conditions, Any adjustments
must be performed by a Sears or other quaHified service
