5. Remove the safety filter only if you intend to replace it.
Important: Never attempt to clean the safety filter.
If the safety filter is dirty, then the primary filter is
damaged and both filters should be replaced.
6. Inspect the new filter(s) for damage by looking into
the filter while shining a bright light on the outside of
the filter.
Note: Holes in the filter will appear as bright spots.
Inspect the element for tears, an oily film, or damage to
the rubber seal. If the filter is damaged, do not use it.
7. If you are replacing the safety filter, carefully slide the
new filter into the filter body (Figure 34).
Note: To prevent engine damage, always operate the
engine with both air filters and cover installed.
8. Carefully slide the primary filter over the safety filter
(Figure 34).
Note: Ensure that it is fully seated by pushing on the
outer rim of the filter while installing it.
9. Install the air cleaner cover with the side indicated as
UP facing up and secure the latches (Figure 34).
Changing the Engine Oil and
Filter
Service Interval: After the first 50 hours
Every 100 hours
Oil capacity: Approximately 3.2 L (3.4 US qt) (with a filter)
Engine-oil type: Detergent diesel engine oil API service
CH-4 or higher
Engine-oil viscosity: Choose an oil viscosity according to
the table in Figure 35.
1. Raise the front of the bed with a hoist and place a
safety support to hold up the bed; refer to Removing
the Full Bed (page 26).
2. Align a drain pan below the drain plug for the engine
(Figure 36).

3. Remove the drain plug from the engine and let the oil
flow into a drain pan (Figure 36).
4. When the oil stops draining, install the drain plug
(Figure 36).
5. Remove the oil filter (Figure 37).

6. Apply a light coat of clean engine oil to the seal on the
new oil filter.
7. Screw the filter on until the gasket contacts the
mounting plate, then tighten the filter and additional
1/2 to 2/3 of a turn.
Important: Do not overtighten the oil filter.
8. Add the specified oil to the crankcase.
