Belt Maintenance
Adjusting the Alternator Belt
Service Interval: After the first 8 hours—Check the
condition and tension of the alternator
belt.
Every 200 hours—Check the condition and tension of
the alternator belt.
1. Raise the bed with a hoist and place a safety support
to hold up the bed; refer to Removing the Full Bed
(page 26).
2. Check the tension by pressing the belt at mid span
between the crankshaft and alternator pulleys with 10
kg (22 lb) of force.
Note: A new belt should deflect 8 to 12 mm (0.3 to
0.5 inch).
Note: A used belt should deflect 10 to 14 mm (0.4 to
0.55 inch). If the deflection is incorrect, proceed to the
next step. If correct, continue operation.
3. To adjust belt tension, complete the following:
A. Loosen the 2 alternator-mounting bolts.
1. Alternator belt
B. Using a bar, rotate the alternator until the proper

bolts.
