Error and maintenance messages

As with any sophisticated office product, errors may occur, consumable and maintenance items may need to
be replaced. If this happens, your machine identifies the error or required routine maintenance and shows the
appropriate message. The most common error and maintenance messages are shown below.
You can clear most errors and perform routine maintenance by yourself. If you need more help, the Brother

Access Denied
Cartridge Alert
Cartridge Error
Cover is Open
Duplex Disabled
DX Lever Error
Ink Low
Cause
The function you want to use is
restricted by Secure Function Lock
2.0.
The ink cartridge has been used
with too many printers.
If you are using non Brother Original
ink the machine may not detect the
ink cartridge.
The cartridge's expiration date has
passed.
The ink is not being supplied
correctly.
The ink cartridge is not installed
correctly.
One of the machine's covers is not
closed completely.
The back cover of the machine is
not closed completely.
The duplex tray is not installed or
not installed correctly.
The paper adjustment lever for
duplex printing at the back of the
printer is not correctly set for the
paper size.
The ink cartridge is near the end of
its life.
Action
Contact your administrator to check your Secure
Function Lock Settings.
Do not remove a cartridge unless its ink runs out.
Removing a cartridge while it contains ink may cause
ink to leak out.
You can clear this error by opening and closing the
printer's ink cartridge cover.
Use a Brother Original ink cartridge. You can clear
this error by opening and closing the printer's ink
cartridge cover.
You can clear this error by opening and closing the
printer's ink cartridge cover. If you continue to use the
cartridge, print quality may decrease. Replace the ink
cartridge. (See Replacing the ink cartridge
uu page 98.)
Turn the machine off, and then turn it on again. If the
problem continues, call your Brother dealer.
Take out the ink cartridge, and put it back into the
machine again. If the problem continues, call your
Brother dealer.
Close the cover indicated in the LCD message.
Close the back cover of the machine.
Re-install the duplex tray.
Move the lever at the back of the printer to the correct
paper size position.
Order a new ink cartridge now so a replacement ink
cartridge will be available when the LCD shows
Insufficient Ink.
