Spreader.or.Riving.Knife.
Alignment
Checking.Alignment
The blade guard spreader/riving knife must be aligned
with the blade when installed. If the spreader/riving knife
is not aligned with the blade, then the workpiece will be
forced sideways during the cut, which will increase the
risk of kickback.
Tools.Needed.
Straightedge (min. 12") ........................................1
To.check.spreader/riving.knife.alignment,.do.these.
steps:
1. DISCONNECT SAW FROM POWER!
2. Raise saw blade to maximum height so you have easy
working access.
3. Place straightedge against top and bottom of blade
and spreader/riving knife, as shown in Figure.108.
Spreader/riving knife should be parallel with blade
at both positions and in the "Alignment Zone," as
shown in Figure.109.
— If spreader is in alignment zone no adjustments
need to be made.
— If spreader/riving knife is not parallel with blade and
inside alignment zone, then it needs to be adjusted.
Proceed to Adjusting.Alignment instructions.
— If spreader/riving knife is not parallel with blade
at either top or bottom, it may be bent.. Remove
spreader/riving knife, place it on a flat surface and
check to see if spreader/riving knife lies evenly
along its length.
— If spreader/riving knife does not lie evenly, pro-
ceed to Adjusting. Bent. Spreader/Riving. Knife
procedure.
