Make sure that the IEEE1394 connector of the
MOTIF XF is enabled for MIDI communication.
Press the [UTILITY] button to enter the Utility mode, then
press the [F5] button followed by the [SF2] button to call up
the MIDI display. Set the MIDI In/Out parameter to "FW."

Make sure that the IEEE1394 connector of the
MOTIF XF is enabled for audio communication.
When transmitting audio signals via the IEEE1394 connector,
set the Output Select parameter of the MOTIF XF. When
receiving audio signals via the IEEE1394 connector, set the
FW audio input part parameters of the MOTIF XF. For details,
see page 59.

Press the [STORE] button to store this setting.
What you can do with the IEEE1394
connection
You can integrate the MOTIF XF with DAW software on a
computer by connecting the FW16E-equipped MOTIF XF to
a computer. For details, see below.
• Transfer data of multiple audio channels between the MOTIF
XF and the computer (up to 16 channels from the MOTIF XF to
the computer and up to 6 channels from the computer to the
MOTIF XF)
• Simultaneously record to the sequence software (a) your
performance on the MOTIF XF and (b) the performance of the
computer sequence software that uses the MOTIF XF as a
MIDI tone generator
• Monitor via the MOTIF XF the audio output from the computer
and the audio output from the MOTIF XF
• Use Cubase together with the MOTIF XF and take advantage
of a variety of convenient functions in that DAW program

Signal flow of audio and MIDI data via an
IEEE1394 cable
The illustration below shows the flow of audio signals and
MIDI messages when connecting the MOTIF XF and a
computer via an IEEE1394 cable.

Setting the port on the MOTIF XF is not necessary since the
MIDI Port of the MOTIF XF is automatically fixed according to
the application. For information on which port should be
selected on your computer, refer to page 59.
Audio signal transmission
FW OUT 1 – 14 (*2)
Audio signals are output via FW OUT 1 – 14 when the MOTIF
XF Output Select parameter is set to any of the settings
"FW1&2" – "FW13&14" and "FW1" – "FW14" in one of the
following displays.
• [VOICE] (When a Drum Voice is selected)  [EDIT]  Key
