Using a Connected Computer
Computer Software that can be
controlled from the MOTIF XF
Cubase, SONAR, Logic Pro, Digital Performer

"Specifications" on page 79.

Setting up for Remote Control

Setting up the MOTIF XF

Connect this instrument to the computer via a USB
cable.

Press the [UTILITY] button to enter the Utility
mode, press the [F5] then [SF1] button to call up
the Remote Setting display.

Set the DAW type to the desired DAW.

Press the [STORE] button to store this setting.

Start the DAW software on the computer
connected to the MOTIF XF.
Setting up the DAW of the computer
This section explains how to set up after starting each
application.
NOTE
When the cable between the MOTIF XF and the computer is
disconnected or the MOTIF XF is turned off accidentally, the
DAW may not recognize the MOTIF XF again even if you connect
the cable again or turn the MOTIF XF back on. If this occurs, exit
the DAW software, then restart it after setting up the MOTIF XF
and making sure the connection is secure.
Important
Depending on the version of your DAW software, the actual procedure
may be different from the following one, or the settings may even not
available. For details, refer to the manual of your DAW software.
 Cubase
When connecting the MOTIF XF and the computer via a USB
cable or an IEEE1394 cable, installing the MOTIF XF
Extension and starting Cubase will automatically make the
settings of the Remote Device.
The MOTIF XF Extension can be downloaded via the
following URL:

Pull down the [Devices] menu and select [Device Setup]
to call up the "Device Setup" window.

Click the [+] button and add the "Mackie Control" or
"Yamaha MOTIF XF."

Select the device of "Mackie Control" or "Yamaha MOTIF
XF" added to the list.

When the MOTIF XF Extension has not been installed, set
the MIDI Input Port to "Yamaha MOTIF XF6(7, 8)-2" or
"Yamaha MOTIF XF6(7, 8) Port2" or "MOTIF XF Remote,"

then set the MIDI Output Port to "Yamaha MOTIF XF6(7,
8)-2" or "Yamaha MOTIF XF6(7, 8) Port2" or "MOTIF XF
Remote.
NOTE
Unlike with the Mackie Control, the MOTIF XF does not
support UserA and UserB (FootSw).
 SONAR

Pull down the [Options] menu and select [MIDI Devices]
to call up the "MIDI Devices" window.

Add "Yamaha MOTIF XF-2" to the Input Device, then add
"Yamaha MOTIF XF-2" to the Output Device.

Pull down the [Options] menu and select [Control
Surfaces] to call up the Control Surface window.

Click the [+] button, select "Mackie Control," then set the
Input Port to "Yamaha MOTIF XF-2" and set the Output
Port to "Yamaha MOTIF XF-2."
 Digital Performer

In the Audio/MIDI setup of a Mac computer, connect Port
2 of the interface of the MOTIF XF to Port 2 of the tone
generator. When there is only one Port for the tone
generator, add the new Port, then connect it to the
interface.

Pull down the [Setup] menu and select [Control
Surfaces] to call up the Control Surface window.

Click the [+] button.

Select "Mackie Control" in the Driver section.

In the box for setting "Unit" and "MIDI," select "Mackie
Control" in the "Unit" section and select "MOTIF XF New
Port 2" in the "MIDI" section.
 Logic Pro

Select the [Preference] menu  [Control Surfaces] 
[Settings] to call up the Settings window.

Select the [New] menu  [Install].

Select "Mackie Control" in the model, then add it as a
control surface.

Set the MIDI Output Port to "Yamaha MOTIF XF-2."

Set the MIDI Input Port to "Yamaha MOTIF XF-2."
