Installing the Switch On a Table

The Fast Ethernet switch can be installed on a table, in a standard 19-inch
rack, or on a wall. To install the switch in a rack, go to the section "Installing
the Switch in a Rack" on page 14. To install the switch on a table, perform the
following steps:
1.
Remove all components from the shipping package and store the
packaging material in a safe location.
2.
Locate a level, secure surface for the switch.
Note
Be sure to allow at least 2 inches on each side of the unit for proper
ventilation and 5 inches at the back for power cord clearance.
3.
Attach the rubber feet on each marked location on the bottom of the switch
chassis.
Note
Attaching the rubber feet is optional but recommended to keep the unit
from slipping.
4.
Apply AC power to the switch by plugging the power cord into the AC
power connector on the back panel of the unit and plugging the other end
into a wall outlet.
Warning
The power cord is used as a disconnection device. To de-energize
equipment, disconnect the power cord.
5.
Connect the data cables, making sure each connection has a good valid link
and that the switch is receiving packets. For 10/100Base-TX ports, use a
straight-through cable to connect to workstations, servers, or printers. To
connect to a hub, router, or another switch, use port 24 and configure the
port as MDI using the uplink button or, alternatively, use a crossover
cable.
For additional details about the uplink push button on Port 24, see
Chapter 1.
6.
Go to the procedure "Setting Up for Local Management" on page 17 to
access the management interface on the switch.
