Incorrect → Change.
Manufacturer/model
NGK/CR7E
5. Check:
Electrode "1"

Damage/wear → Replace the spark plug.
Insulator "2"
G
Abnormal color → Replace the spark plug.
Normal color is medium-to-light tan.

6. Clean:
Spark plug

(with a spark plug cleaner or wire brush)
7. Measure:
Spark plug gap "a"
G
(with a wire thickness gauge)
Out of specification → Regap.
Spark plug gap
0.7–0.8 mm (0.028–0.031 in)
8. Install:
Spark plug
G
Spark plug
13 Nm (1.3 m•kg, 9.4 ft•lb)
NOTE:
Before installing the spark plug, clean the spark
plug and gasket surface.
9. Connect:
Spark plug

10.Install:
Inner fender
G
Side cover (left and right)
G
Center cover
G
Refer to "GENERAL CHASSIS" on page 4-1.

CHECKING THE IGNITION TIMING

NOTE:
Prior to checking the ignition timing, check the
wiring connections of the entire ignition system.
Make sure all connections are tight and free of
corrosion.
1. Remove:
Center cover
G
Side cover (left and right)
G
Left footrest board
G
Refer to "GENERAL CHASSIS" on page 4-1.
2. Connect:
Timing light "1"

Digital tachometer
G
Timing light

Inductive clamp timing light

3. Install:
Timing light "1"

(onto the spark plug lead of cylinder #1)
Timing light

4. Check:
