(7) Cleaning

After the transferring process, the drum needs to be physically cleaned of toner which is residual after the development
process. The cleaning blade A is constantly pressed against the drum B and scrapes the residual toner off to the
sweep roller C. The waste toner is collected at the output end of the sweep roller C and sent back to the toner
container, into the waste toner reservoir D.

After the drum B is physically cleaned, it then must be cleaned to the electrically neutral state. This is necessary to
erase any residual positive charge, ready to accept the uniform charge for the next print process. The residual charge is
canceled by exposing the drum B to the light emitted from the eraser lamp E. This lowers the electrical conductivity of
the drum surface making the residual charge on the drum surface escape to the ground.
