Customizing settings
for your scan session

After you have setup your Destination settings, you can also change
the default image processing settings. Following is a summary of each
of these settings. To change one or more settings, access the Settings
mode, select the setting you want to change (i.e., Resolution, File Type,
etc.).
Icon
Settings — toggles between Settings/Destination
mode and Exit.
Resolution — determines the quality of the
scanned image. The image resolution is defined by
the number of dots-per-inch that are used to create
the image. The higher the resolution the sharper
the image. Available resolutions are 75, 100, 150,
200, 240, 300, 400 and 600 dpi. 300 dpi is optimal
for creating text PDF files.
Scan As — available options are black-and-white,
color or grayscale.
Input — allows you to scan one side or two sides of
a document.
File Type — available file types:
• JPEG: produces one file per scanned page
• PDF: produces a searchable PDF file
• TIFF: produces one multi-page file for the scan
job
Document Type — indicates whether the
document to be scanned is text, photographs, or a
mix of text with graphics.
Adjustments — the Black-and-White Adjustments
screen appears. If your output is black-and-white,
you can choose either Normal or Best.
• If you select Normal, you can select a Contrast
and Threshold setting.
• If you select Best, you can only select a Contrast
setting.

f your output is color or grayscale, the Contrast
and Threshold settings are disabled.
Contrast — enhances the edges contained in an
image. Edges typically represent transitions
between foreground and background information,
such as the transition from background to faint text.
Values range from 0 to 100. The higher the contrast
level the more enhancement of the image edges.
