Symptom
The edge of the copy is dirty.
The image is not aligned
properly on the paper.

Possible Cause
Either the document pad or
the document transfer belt is
dirty.
The selected copy paper size
is larger than the document
(with Zoom set to "× 1.000").
The orientation of the docu-
ment is different from the ori-
entation of the copy (with
Zoom set to "× 1.000").
The copy was reduced to a
size smaller than the copy
paper (a Custom Zoom set-
ting was selected).
The document is not posi-
tioned correctly.
The document is not posi-
tioned correctly in the du-
plexing document feeder.
The original glass is dirty
(while using the duplexing
document feeder).
The document guides are not
positioned along the edges
of the paper.
Curled paper was loaded into
the paper drawer.
Troubleshooting
Remedy
Clean the document pad or
the document transfer belt
with a soft cloth dampened
with mild detergent. Refer to
p. 12-9.
Select a copy paper size that
is the same as the size of the
document. Refer to p. 6-4.
Otherwise, set Zoom to "Auto
Size" to enlarge the copy to
the selected paper size. Re-
fer to p. 6-14.
Select a copy paper size that
is the same as the size of the
document. Otherwise, select
a copy orientation that is the
same as the orientation of
the document.
Select a zoom ratio that ad-
justs the document size to
the selected paper size. Re-
fer to p. 6-15. Otherwise, set
Zoom to "Auto Size" to re-
duce the copy to the selected
paper size. Refer to p. 6-14.
Correctly position the docu-
ment against the document
width scale. Refer to p. 5-11.
Correctly load the document
into the duplexing document
feeder, and then slide the
document guides against it.

Open the duplexing docu-
ment feeder, and correctly
position the document
against the document width
scale. Refer to p. 5-11.
Wipe the glass with a soft dry

Slide the document guides
