54 Helpful H ints
If you are havingproblemswith YOurVCR, checkthe followinglist of problemsand possiblesolutionsbefore
requesting service.Youmay be able to solvethe problemyourself.
If you need to call a customerservicerepresentaUve,pleaseknow the model number and serialnumber of
your product beforeyou call. This informationis displayed on the backof the product. Also,pleasetake a
moment to identifythe problem you are having, a nd be preparedto explainthis to the representative, if
you believethe representativewill need to help you with operations,pleasestaynear the product. Our
representatives will be happyto assistyou.
The VCR has no power.
• Make sure the power plugis completelyconnectedto an AC (alternating current) oudet.
• Hake sure the power isturned on.

A power failure occurred.
• Selecta language and set up channels, i f prompted to do so.Detailsare on pages I I - 12 and 19.Reset the
cJock_ D etailsare on pages 13 - 17.You may also need to reprogrem your timer recordings.Details are on
pages 35 - #0.
TheVCR
cannot be controlled with the remote control,
• Aim the remote control directly at theVCR's remote sensor. D etailsare on pages5 and 22.
• Remove all obstacles between the remote control and theVCR.
• Inspectand/or replace the batteries in the remote control.Detailsare on page 5.
• Press theVCR button,then try the other buttons.
TheVCR
does not respond normally to the remote control. (For example, theVCR
may
change channels multiple times when you press the CH(annel)
• button once.)
• install new batteries (preferablyalkaline)in the remote control.
TheVCR
will not perform a timer recording.
• Make sure the recording start and stop times are set correctly.Detailsare on pages3.5- #0.
• Make sure there is a tape in theVCR.
• Make sure the tape hasa record tab. Detailsare on page .5.
• Hake sure theVCR power is off.
• Hake sure the clock is set Detailsare on pages 13 - 17.
• TbeVCR may not perform or continuea timer recording ira power interruption of more than I0 min-
utes occurs,evenif the power comes backon. If timer recordings are lost,- - :- - shouldappearon the
display panel.But,evenif you do not see this indicationand theVCR operates normally, c heckpro-
_ammed timer recordings. Detailsare onpage #0.
• When you turn on theVCE after a power failure,this on-screen message may appear: POWER FAILURE
OCCURRED/TIMER MEMORY CLEARED (IF PROGRAHHED)/PLEASE SET PROGRAHSTO BE
RECORDED/TO END PUSH EXIT.First,reset the clocl_Detailsare on pages13 - 17.Then, set up chan-
nels.Detailsare on pages I I - 12. Finally, p rogramthe timer recordings again. D etailsare on pages35 - 40.
• Finishprogramming a timer recording at leastfive minutesbefore the recording is scheduledto begin.
• if two timer recordings overlap,ClASH will appearon-screen.Theearlier program haspriority,the later
programwill not be recorded.
• If the VCR power is turned off for a timer recording and there isn'ta tape in the VCR, the _) and
Cassette Insidelightswill blink on the displaypanel.
• Iftbe record tab on a tape is missing and you turn off theVCR to set a timer recording, theVCR will
eject the tape.The _) and Cassette insidelights will blink on the displaypanel.
• Noon is 12 p.m.;midnightis 12 a.m.
• Enter the Cable Box/DBSoutput channel(03 or 04) at step 3 on page37, then selectthe channelto be
recorded at the Cable Box/DBS.Leavethe Cable Box/DBS on for the timer recording.
Tape can't be inserted.
• Insert the tape window side up,with the record tab facing you.
• Make sure a tape isn'talreadyin theVCR by pressing the STOP/EJECTbutton on theVCR or the EJECT
button on the remote control.
• _endy pushthe center of the tape as you put it in theVCR. Never force a tape into theVCR.
