Glossary
screen font A font that can be displayed on the
monitor screen.
settings page an informational page that can be
printed out by going into the status monitor,
clicking the "printer info" box and choosing
"print settings page". You can also have a settings
page printed out by pressing the test button on
the operator panel.
SIMM Single In-line Memory Module. You can
install a SIMM inside the printer to increase
printer memory.
smoothness The property of a surface
determined by how free it is of irregularities.
status page An informational page that
automatically prints out when you turn on your
printer if you are connected to a network.
stiffness The ability of paper to resist
deformation under stress.
symbol set The characters and special symbols
that make up a font.
TSR Abbreviation of terminate and stay resident.
Refers to DOS programs that can be memory
resident or remain in memory at all times once
they are loaded. Examples might be calendars,
calculators or notepads that can be instantly
accessed or that can pop up in applications.

test page An informational page the printer
issues that displays text and graphic samples for
verifying print quality. This page prints out when
you first install your printer software. It can also
be printed out by going into the Windows Status
Monitor, clicking the "Printer Info" box and
choosing "Print Demo Page".
toner The plastic powder in the cartridge that
serves as the printer "ink."
Toner module A cartridge that contains the toner
powder used in the printing process.
virtual memory A technology that allows
memory to be expanded more than the actual
main memory of the computer. When Windows is
used in Enhanced Mode with an i386 (SX) or
newer CPU, a part of the hard disk is used as a
swap file and a part of the information stored in
the main memory is stored in the swap file
thereby virtually expanding the capacity of the
main memory.
watermark Text or graphic that is superimposed
on the final output, usually in a lighter grey tone.
Windows An operating system developed by
Microsoft that offers an efficient and user-friendly
graphical environment using a mouse, menu
screens, and a simplified user interface.
SuperScript works with Windows 3.1, Windows
for Workgroups, and Windows 95/98.
