Glossary
booklet printing Booklet printing lets you
produce booklets in book or tablet form. Booklets
have two reduced-sized pages on each side of the
sheet. You fold these sheets to complete the
booklet. When you use booklet printing, the
SuperScript 870 Windows Printer Driver keeps
track of the booklet's pagination so that all of the
pages of the booklet print where they should.
brightness The whiteness of a piece of paper.
Brighter paper is usually associated with higher
quality papers.
buffer Electronic memory where text is stored for
processing by the printer.
control panel Sets the system parameters and
attributes like the appearance of windows, the
display of data, the peripherals to be used and the
like.
click To position the pointer at the location you
want an action to take place, and then press and
release the mouse button without moving the
mouse. Unless otherwise specified to click means
to left-click on the mouse.
cpi Characters per inch. Also known as pitch.
curl The amount of curvature in a sheet of paper
when laid on a surface. In-ream curl is the amount
of curvature the sheet has at the time it is loaded
into the paper tray before printing. Post-image

curl is the curvature resulting from the fusing and
delivery operations. Any in-ream curl toward the
side to be printed is undesirable, while a small
amount of curl on the opposite side is generally
acceptable.
default A preset setting that is automatically read
by the printer until you change the setting.
demo page An informational page the printer
issues that displays text and graphic samples for
verifying print quality. Can be printed out by
going into the Windows Status Monitor, clicking
the "Printer Info" box and choosing "Print Demo
Page".
density The relative darkness of print or the
amount of white that shows through the printed
characters.
desktop publishing A system that provides you
with the ability to produce publication-quality
documents.
dialog box A box that contains a message
requesting information from you.
display What appears on your computer screen.
DOS See MS-DOS
dpi Dots per inch. Refers to output resolution.
driver See print driver.
