LESSON 7
Creating Motion Menus
A chapter point marker, labeled 2, appears at 11:21. You can also create a chapter point by
right-clicking the handle of the current-time indicator and choosing Add Chapter Point.
Note: Video footage is divided into contiguous Groups of Pictures (GOPs), which are typically
13 frames long. When you're working with an MPEG-2 file, you can set a chapter point only
at the first frame of a GOP, called a GOP header. If you attempt to insert a chapter point at
a different frame, Adobe Encore DVD actually creates the chapter point at the previous GOP
header. When working with an AVI file, as in this lesson, the same restrictions do not apply
because the file has not yet been transcoded. Therefore, you can create a chapter point
wherever you want it. When Adobe Encore DVD transcodes the AVI file, it automatically
creates a GOP header at every chapter point you've set. To ensure both DVD compliance and
best-quality transcoding, place chapter points in AVI videos at least 15 frames apart.
7 In the Properties palette, rename the chapter point Stage 2.
8 Create additional chapter points, named Stage 3 and Stage 4, at 19:05 and 26:16,
respectively.
9 Save the project.
