To adjust the chain slack
1.
Loosen the wheel axle pin nut and lock
nut on each side of the swing arm.
2.
To tension the drive chain, turn the
tension adjustment bolt on each side
of the swing arm (clockwise).
3.
To loosen the transmission chain, turn
the tension adjustment bolt on each
side of the swing arm (anticlockwise)
and push the rear wheel forwards.

NOTICE
Incorrect transmission chain tension
will overload the engine and other
vital parts of the motorcycle, and it
may cause the chain to slip or break.
To stop this from happening, keep
the transmission chain tension with-
in the speci ed limits. Make sure that
the distance is the same for the left
and right sides of the swing arm.

Tighten the wheel axle pin nut and

Tightening torques:
Wheel axle pin nut:
60 N·m (6.1 kgf·m, 44.2 lb·ft)
Locknut:
20 N·m (2.0 kgf·m, 14.7 lb·ft)
Periodic maintenance and adjustment
Cleaning and lubricating the drive
chain
The drive chain must be cleaned and lubri-
cated at the intervals speci ed in the pe-
riodic maintenance and lubrication chart,
otherwise it will quickly wear out, especial-
ly when riding in dusty or wet areas. Service
the drive chain as follows.
NOTICE
The drive chain must be lubricated
after washing the motorcycle, riding
in the rain or riding in wet areas.

To prevent damaging the O-rings, do
not clean the drive chain with steam
cleaners, high-pressure washers or
inappropriate solvents.

Clean the drive chain with kerosene
and a small soft brush.
Wipe the drive chain dry.
Thoroughly lubricate the drive chain
with a special O-ring chain lubricant.
