7.4 TRAFFIC DISPLAY

The traffic display in the center of the indicator shows nearby traffic relative to a white
airplane (own aircraft) symbol. The traffic display should be used as an aid to visual acquisition
of nearby traffic only. A fixed 2 nm range ring is displayed as white dots around the own
aircraft symbol, with the dots placed at the 12 clock positions. The distance from the own
aircraft symbol to the top of the vertical speed scale corresponds to the selected display range.
The range of the traffic display is selected using the inner concentric knob. Rotating the
knob counterclockwise increases the range, while rotating the knob clockwise decreases the
range. Ranges of 4, 6, 12, 24 and 40 nm may be selected using the knob. The 2 nm range ring
is removed from the display for ranges greater than 12 nm.
NOTE: If the system is configured to use an external ATC/TCAS control panel that
allows range selection, rotating the Small Knob on the GI 275 will not change the range.
Instead, the ATC/TCAS control panel will control the range and range increments.
The symbols used to display TCAS II traffic are as shown in the following table:
Traffic Symbol
Other Traffic
- Traffic is beyond 6 nm and is neither a Traffic Advisory or Proximate Traffic.
Proximate Traffic
- Indicates the intruding aircraft is within +/- 1200 feet and is within 6 nm range.
Traffic Advisory (TA)
- Potentially hazardous intruding aircraft meets the closing rate, distance, and
Resolution Advisory (RA)
- Potentially hazardous intruding aircraft meets closing rate, distance, and vertical
Relative altitude, when available, is displayed above or below the corresponding traffic
symbol in hundreds of feet. When this altitude is above own aircraft, it is displayed above
the traffic symbol and it is preceded by a '+' symbol; a minus sign '-' indicates traffic is below
own aircraft and is displayed below the traffic symbol. The system displays the traffic altitude
vertical trend as an up/down arrow to the right of the traffic symbol (for traffic climbing or
descending at vertical speeds greater than 500 fpm). No arrow is displayed for traffic climbing
or descending at vertical speeds less than 500 fpm.
