Displaying the Printer Status on a Macintosh

Using the Status Monitor, you can display the amount of ink left and other printer status details on the
computer. You can also check any errors that occur in the print job queue window.
The print job queue window opens automatically when you execute a print command. Using the Status
Monitor, you can also display the printer status without executing a print command.
To view the printer's status on your computer, bidirectional communication between the printer and
computer must be established.

Checking whether Bidirectional Communication is Working on a Macintosh

You can view the printer's status on your computer only if the printer and computer are communicating
bidirectionally.
Use the following procedure to check whether the computer and printer are communicating bidirectionally.
1.
Open [Maintenance Utility].
2.
Check that [Maintenance Utility] is displayed.
If [Maintenance Utility] is displayed, bidirectional communication is available.
The printer's status can be checked from the computer if bidirectional communication is available.

Displaying the Status Monitor on a Macintosh

This section explains how to display the Status Monitor.
1.
Display the [Print & Fax].
Under Mac OS X 10.3.x - 10.4.x, display the [Printer List].
2.
From the [Print & Fax], select the printer you want to use.
If you want to use a network printer, select it according to its IP address.
3.
On the [Print & Fax] toolbar, click [Utility].
The [Maintenance Utility] appears.
4.
Click [Status Monitor].
The Status Monitor is launched.
