5. Measure each bearing journal in two locations, 90
degrees apart. Replace balance shaft if either journal
is worn below the service limit specification. If worn
past the service limit, replace the balance shaft
assembly.
MEASUREMENT
Balance Shaft Diameter (MAG & PTO):
1.4939 - 1.4946" (37.946 - 37.962 mm)
Service Limit:
1.4921" (37.900 mm)

1. Perform Crankcase Disassembly / Inspection page
3.106 procedure.
2. Perform Balance Shaft Removal / Inspection page
3.108 procedure.
3. For ease of assembly, mark each connecting rod and
end cap.
4. Loosen, remove and discard the four connecting rod

bolts . Remove the end caps from the crankshaft.
5. Carefully lift the crankshaft

6. Remove the cam chain

and PTO main seal from the crankshaft.
