Guardian Reader™ Storage and Maintenance Recommendations

The following are storage and maintenance recommendations for the Guardian Reader:
.
Storage:
1. Storage temperature range: 15 to 130 °F.
2. Storage humidity; outside storage container: 15 to 80% RH, non-condensing.
3. Inside the container, with pressure-release valve closed, the unit is airtight and
watertight.
4. Do not store the Reader with AA batteries inside the unit.
5. The internal PC battery has a 5-year life.
Maintenance:
1. The Reader is self-calibrating; no calibration step is necessary.
2. Recommended maintenance every two (2) years and at initial receipt of the unit:
a. Run one positive control with fresh AA batteries.
b. Run one negative control on AC power.
c. Print the results of both tests. Retain and save the results for product history and
maintenance records.
d. Properly repackage the unit per Alexeter specifications (see operating manual).
e. Place an Avery (or similar) label on the outside of the case stating the date the
maintenance was performed and person who performed it.
3. Recommended maintenance every five (5) years; send unit to Alexeter for the following:
a. Replace the internal battery (PC battery life is 5 years).
b. Internal cleaning.
c. Inspection of the white and black calibration tiles.
d. Reset the real time clock (addresses clock drift).
4. If long term storage is greater than 2 years, the unit should undergo the recommended
maintenance as described above every 2 years. Unit needs to be returned to the factory
every 5 years regardless of storage conditions.
