If long term storage is greater than 2 years, the unit should undergo the
recommended maintenance as described above every 2 years. Unit needs to
be returned to the factory every 5 years regardless of storage conditions.\

Routine Operation

It is recommended that the Guardian Reader be operated at least
once every month. A single, manual reading of a fresh test strip should be
performed to ensure good operation, especially for seldomly used instrumen-
tation. Routine training and operation confirms the proficiency of both the
user and the Reader
.

Cleaning

The outer housing of the Guardian Reader can be wiped down with
a soft cotton cloth. Spills onto the surface should be immediately wiped off.
If any liquid is spilled onto the Reader, it should be powered off immediately
and left outside of the carrying case to completely dry.

Troubleshooting

Error Messages

If you encounter error messages during Test Reading at any time, fol-
low these steps:
1)
Press the left arrow key (<) to retry the last step.
2)
If normal operation doesn't resume after three consecutive at-
tempts at RETRY, Press the right arrow key (>) to abort. See
"Aborting a Test in Progress" section, above.
3)
Power down the instrument from the MAIN MENU by pressing
the "ON" button. Power up the system by pressing the "ON" but-
ton again.
4)
Retry reading the Test Strip, or performing whatever function
produced the error.
5)
If the Reader continues to display error messages, call Alexeter
Technical Support for Assistance at (847) 419-1507.
