Quick Reference:
See the Bio Detect Product Insert (inside the box of test strips) for complete instructions before testing.
Check foil pouch for any puncture damage before use: if damaged, discard the strip and use a new one.
Materials Needed
- Bio Detect Test Strip - Sample Vials
- Sample Buffer
- pH test strips
Sampling Procedure
Powders
1. Fill sample vial with 1 ml of Sample Buffer.
2. Collect sample with swab. If necessary, wet tip to
facilitate collection.
3. Insert swab tip into the vial, stir for 10 seconds, cap
and agitate vigorously for 10 seconds.
4. Check sample pH. If in 6 to 11 range, proceed to
"Dosing Procedure". If not, perform 1:4 dilution
(see below) and re-evaluate sample pH.
Liquids
1. Fill sample vial with 0.5 ml of Sample Buffer.
2. Add unknown liquid, fi lling to the 1.0 ml mark.
3. Close sample vial and agitate vigorously.
4. Check sample pH. If in 6 to 11 range, proceed to
"Dosing Procedure". If not, perform 1:4 dilution
(see below) and re-evaluate sample pH.
Dilution Procedures
1:4 Dilution Procedure
1. Fill a new sample vial with 1 ml of Sample Buffer.

Start Up
If the Guardian Reader is OFF, connect to a 120-
240V power source: it will automatically power on. If
the Reader is off, or running on batteries, press the
"ON" button.
Wait at least 15 MINUTES after dosing the
test strip before reading the test!
Reading the Test Strip
1. From the MAIN MENU, select "RUN MANUAL
TEST", using the (up or down) arrow keys. Press
"ENTER".
2. Optional: Enter a User ID number. Press "ENTER".
3. Place the dosed test strip in the Reader carriage.

2. Using Dropper Bulb, add material to be diluted up
to the 1.25 ml mark.
3. Close vial and agitate vigorously.
1:40 Dilution Procedure for Second Toxin Test
1. Fill a new sample vial with 1 ml of buffer solution.
2. Use the Dropper Bulb to add one drop of material
to be diluted, close vial and agitate vigorously.
Dosing Procedure

3. After 15 minutes, evaluate the test strip, visu-
ally and in the Guardian Reader. No streaking
should be visible. Two lines are POSITIVE, one line
is NEGATIVE.

4. Optional: Enter a Sample ID number. Press
"ENTER".
5. The test results will be displayed in approximately 3
minutes.
6. Wait for the test results to print.
7. To run the next test, replace the test strip with an-
other dosed test strip. Press "Enter".
8. If any of your results are Positve, be sure to run
another test strip in Automatic mode. Select "RUN
AUTOMATIC TEST" and follow directions.
9. To report positive results, positive results from an
AUTOMATIC test is required.
