IV – Maintenance &
Troubleshooting
The Guardian Reader has no user-serviceable parts. The
Reader is self-calibrating; no calibration step is necessary. In the event
of any instrument malfunctions, breakages, etc., the user should con-
tact the Alexeter Technical Staff for assistance.

Instrument Maintenance

Recommended maintenance every two (2) years and at initial receipt of
the unit:
1.
Run one positive control with fresh AA batteries.
2
Run one negative control on AC power.
3.
Print the results of both tests. Retain and save the results for product history
and maintenance records.
4.
Properly repackage the unit per Alexeter specifications (see operating manual).
Remove the batteries before storing the Guardian for any extended period.
5.
Place a label on the outside of the case stating the date the maintenance was
performed and person who performed it.
Required maintenance every five (5) years; send unit to Alexeter for the fol-
lowing. Note there are no user-servicable parts inside the Guardian Reader.
1.
Replace the internal battery (PC battery life is 5 years).
2.
Internal cleaning.
3.
Inspection of the white and black calibration tiles.
4.
Re-calibrate the internal optics.

Instrument Storage

1.
Storage temperature range: 15 to 130 °F.
2.
Storage humidity; outside storage container: 15 to 80% RH, non-condensing.
3.
Inside the container, with pressure-release valve closed, the unit is airtight and
watertight.
4.
Do not store the Reader with AA batteries inside the unit.
5.
The internal battery has a 5-year life.
