Subject: Revised User Instructions: Automatic Mode Error 202
Date:
20 February 2002
We have become aware of an issue which requires a change to our instruction manual and
training procedures. Users in the field must also be aware of the new recommendation, which
applies only to tests being run in Automatic Mode.
Summary
When conducting a test in Automatic Mode, some users are receiving an Error 202 message, "No
Flow Detected". This problem occurs when the Reader's flow detection times out before the
sample liquid reaches the Reader's sensor. The timeout is set for 120 seconds and some tests
are requiring more than 120 seconds to reach the sensor.
Solution
To correct the problem, we are instructing users to wait 30 seconds after they see the sample
liquid flow into the test window, then to press the "Start" button. This ensures that the liquid will
reach the sensors before the timeout occurs.
Therefore, we are changing Step 8 on page 22 of the Guardian Reader Manual to read as
follows:
8. If a new, unused strip is found, you will be prompted to apply the sample to the
cartridge (Figure 24). Using a bulb dropper, dispense 0.15 ml (5 drops) of the
sample liquid into the round sample port. For non-RFID containing tests,
wait until you see the red liquid begin to enter the test window. Wait 30
seconds, then press the "Start" button. Otherwise press "Start" now.
When we begin shipping tests which contain the RFID chip, this problem will be automatically
corrected by the Reader's software.
Recommendations
The Guardian Manual (a .pdf file) on our website reflects this change:
a. Download and print the "Guardian Reader Operating Manual", replacing the
current manual.
b.
Alternatively, open the "Guardian Reader Operating Manual" and print out only
page 22, exchanging it with the page currently in your manual.
