Test Strip Storage Recommendations
Date:
14 March 2003
The Guardian Reader System™ is designed for field use. Because of the wide temperature
range that users encounter in the field, it is necessary to take steps to protect the test strips
from these extremes. Here are our recommendations:
.
Test Strip Storage Guidelines:
Response vehicles are generally stored indoors when not responding to a call. Therefore the
storage temperature while "in quarters" is not expected to present a problem. If your vehicle
is equipped with a refrigerator, the test strips may be stored in it. Ensure that they do not
freeze. To avoid the formation of condensation on a cold test strip, bring them to operating
temperature (59°- 86° F) before opening the foil pouch.
Once out on a run, the response vehicle's heating and air conditioning system will maintain
an appropriate environment; therefore, storage inside the cab should be acceptable. Do not
store the test strips in the trunk or glove compartment of any vehicle, but rather in the
passenger compartment, protected from temperature extremes.
Use of an insulated container should be considered when these conditions cannot be met, or
when extreme conditions are expected. In any case, follow these guidelines:
1. The test strips do not require refrigeration and should be stored above freezing.
2. The test strips must be protected from repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
3. The test strips should not be stored in direct sunlight or for prolonged periods of time
above 90° F.
4. The Guardian Reader may be stored in the range of 15° to 130° F.
5. Bring the test strips and the Guardian Reader to room temperature before use; the
operating range is 59° to 86° F. Note: refrigeration does not increase the shelf life of
the BioThreat Alert test strips.
6. Run the test in this temperature range, protected from wind and direct sunlight.
