The Guardian Reader System includes Test Strips and the Guard-
ian Reader. Instructions for using the Test Strips are detailed below,
followed by operating instructions for the Guardian Reader.
Please see the Product Insert (included in each box of test strips)
and Alexeter's Testing Flow Chart for complete instructions before
performing these tests. A handy Quick Reference is located on the
back of the Flow Chart. The Testing Flow Chart and Quick Reference
are also contained in Appendix IV of this manual.

Materials Needed

• Bio Detect Test Strip
• Bio Detect Sample Buffer
• Disposable Bulb Droppers (included with each test)
• Disposable Sample Vials
• Disposable Polyester-tipped Swabs
• pH test paper

Sample Preparation and Evaluation

The key to sampling is to sample moderately. The test strips are
very sensitive and require about a microgram of material, dispersed in
one milliliter (ml) of buffer solution to obtain a valid result.
A pH test is also recommended to guard against the inadvertent
evaluation of harsh chemical agents, which can damage the test strip.

Swipe Samples

1)
Fill the sample vial with 1 ml of Sample Buffer.
2)
Collect the sample by swiping the contaminated surface with
a polyester-tipped swab.
3)
Transfer the sample by placing the swab in the vial, then stir
to disperse.
4)
Cap the vial and agitate vigorously for 10 seconds.
