10-2. BASIC ACTION IN MECHANISM
10-2-1. Position SW and main action at each position
There are 7 kinds of absolute position and undefined sections between each position in R4 mechanism. They are regulated as
follows, according to the input from position switch.

PLAY: PLAY, CUE STILL, SLOW, REC
P.OFF: P.OFF, Timer Standby
STOP_R: From High Speed REW to Brake
STOP_F: From FF to Brake and From Slow REW to Brake
FF/REW: FF/REW
10-2-2. Mechanism initializing action at each position
Mechanism is initialized when AC is input, the power is recovered from power stoppage, or the power is turned on again after
power off condition caused by mechanism lock. Initializing action differs depends on the mechanism position as described below.
(1) At FF/REW, R-REW position, tape is wound for 60 sec. According to the VCR mode before initializing occurs: If initializing
has occurs at FF mode, tape is wound in forward direction; and if it has occurred at REW mode, tape is wound in reverse
direction. After winding is terminated, mode changes to the stand-by mode.
(2) At undefined position (section between two absolute positions), DOWN, REW, PLAY or P.OFF STOP_F, STOP_R position,
tape move to LOAD position once, and wound at LOAD position, and then loaded again. Then, mode changes to stand-by
mode.
(3) At undefined position between EJECT and DOWN, cassette is ejected, and initializing finishes.
(4) At LOAD position, S-reel is rotated for 5 sec. To tighten ape. After that, tape is loaded again, and mode changes to stand-by
mode at P.OFF or PLAY position.
(5) At EJECT position, Initializing finishes without any action.
If the key signal is received during mechanism being initialized, mode display changes. However, actual mode change is
performed after initializing has completed.
10-2-3. Mechanism action in sand-by condition after cassette is inserted
(1) When a non-write protected tape is inserted, the tape is loaded and mechanism stands by at PLAY position in STOP mode.
(2) When a write protected tape is inserted, the tape is loaded and mode changes to PLAY mode.
(3) When standing by at PLAY position, loose the tape in order to reduce tape tension.
(After capstan stops, rotate the tape in reverse direction for FG80 counts.)
(4) When approx. 5 minutes passed during stand-by at PLAY position, mode changes to the stand-by at P.OFF position.
(5) When the power is turned off during stand-by at PLAY position, mode changes to stand- by position at P.OFF position.
(6) When the timer stand-by operation is done during stand-by at PLAY position, mode changes to stand-by position at P.OFF
position.
(7) When the power is turned on in power off condition, mode changes to stand-by at PLAY position from at P.OFF position.
(8) When the timer stand-by id cancelled, mode changes to stand-by at MID position from at PLAY position.
(9) When STOP operation is performed in other than EJECT or POFF, such as PLAY or REC, mechanism waits at PLAY
position.
10-2-4. Mechanism action in EJECT operation
(1) After a cassette tape is inserted, if EJECT is operated before it reaches the LOAD position, the tape moves to the LOAD
position and then mechanism immediately gets in setting up action to eject the tape.
(2) After a cassette tape is inserted, if EJECT is operated after it passes the LOAD position, the tape is completed loading up to
the PLAY position once. After that mechanism action switches to unloading.
