Operating Configurations
There are two operating configurations: LOCAL and REMOTE. In LOCAL, all operations
are controlled from the TWTA Front Panel. The controls and indicators were shown and
summarized at the beginning of this chapter. In REMOTE the front panel high voltage
and setup functions are inhibited.
Note: Familiarity with the XTRT touch menu system is required for LOCAL operation. Familiarity with the
Xicom command set is required for REMOTE operation.
Operating Modes
The operating modes of the TWTA are described in the following sections. There are six
amplifier operating modes:
Filament Time Delay
Standby
Heater Standby
Pending High Voltage ON
High Voltage ON
RF Inhibited
Fault
Filament Time Delay
When the power is first applied to the amplifier, voltage is applied to the TWT's filament.
The TWT's filament must be at operating temperature for the tube to function properly.
The typical warm-up period is three minutes. During the warm-up period, the FTD
indicator (Blue) will be indicated. When the delay cycle is complete the Standby (Amber)
indicator will be shown.
If there is a power failure, high voltage will be OFF for a period of time proportional to
the prime power off-time. At the end of the recovery period, if high voltage is ON when
the prime power interruption occurs, the high voltage is automatically restored.
High voltage can be selected ON during filament time delay this is termed "Pending High
voltage ON" in this mode, high voltage will be applied automatically at the end of the
filament time delay period. The amplifier will "beep" twice when the high voltage is
applied to the TWT.
