Overview
The Xicom Digital M&C system, which is incorporated into all XTRT rack mount
amplifiers with touch-screen provides a common interface for the entire line of
Microwave Tubes. The M&C can be accessed from the front panel or via a serial
interface. This chapter discusses the user interface and the menu system for the touch-
screen interface.
HPACNTRL
HPACNTRL is a Windows Operating System based program that allows remote control of
the XTRT rack mount amplifier. It allows control over a standard serial port as well as
Ethernet. HPACNTRL is available from Xicom Technology part number 809-0032-001 and
can be downloaded from the Xicom FTP site by calling customer service @ 408-213-
3109.

Controls and Indicators
The amplifier is controlled by a microprocessor that responds to commands from the
front panel of the amplifier (LOCAL) or commands from an external controller
(computer) connected to the serial interface port (COM1, RS232), (COM2, RS485) or
Ethernet in (REMOTE). The menus/screens displayed are generated by the installed
firmware. The menus/screens and the full set of amplifier status and commands are
discussed in the following sections of this chapter.
The communication protocols for the remote control serial interfaces are described in
the Chapter titled Amplifier Communication and Protocol.
The front panel of the 3RU amplifier is shown in Figure 1 describing the location of the
various control functions.
