To replace the RTC chip, follow these steps.
1. Align the pin-1 corners of the RTC chip and the socket (see
Figure 4-26). Install the RTC chip.
WARNING: Replace the RTC chip only with the same or equivalent
type recommended by the equipment manufacturer to avoid the dan-
ger of explosion. Discard the RTC chip according to the
manufacturer's instructions.
NOTE: Identifying the pin-1 corners is critical to positioning the clock
correctly.
Identify the pin-1 corner of the RTC chip by locating the small dot in one
corner on the top of the chip. The pin-1 corner of the socket is on the side
with a notch.
2. Replace the primary microprocessor module and the support panel.
3. Turn on the computer and all peripherals.
4. Enter the SCSISelect utility, system setup program, and system config-
uration utility to confirm that the RTC chip is operating correctly.
Reset the System Time and System Date categories in the system setup
program.
Compare the system configuration information with the copy of the system
configuration settings you made in step 1 of the removal procedure. Restore
any system configuration information that may have been lost while replac-
ing the RTC chip.
