  • Page 3 “Installing the SCSI Cable Strain- Relief Clip or Bracket.” Before connecting a Dell PowerEdge 6300 or 4300 system to a Dell PowerEdge SDS 100 storage system, you must install an internal server management bus (SMB) connector and cable.
  • Page 4 If your system supports the GSO-slot bracket, perform steps 4 and 5; otherwise, go to step 6 for instructions on installing the PCI-slot bracket. For GSO-slot brackets, locate the GSO slot on the system’s back panel (at the upper right-hand side as viewed from the back) and remove the tab for the slot. From inside the chassis, orient the SMB connector as shown in Figure 1 (for 6300 systems) or Figure 2 (for 4300 systems) and insert it into the tab opening.
  • Page 5 Insert the SMB connector bracket into the PCI1 back-panel slot as shown in Figure 3 (for PowerEdge 6300 systems) or Figure 4 (for PowerEdge 4300 sys- tems), and latch the expansion-card clip to secure the bracket.

" Connect the SMB cable to the SMB connector on the bracket and seat the other end in the SDS_SMB connector on the system board.

  • Page 8      !"  # $   %  Dell PowerEdge 6300 and 4300 computer systems equipped with a Dell PowerEdge SDS 100 storage system include two strain-relief clips or one strain-relief bracket in the cable kit. When installed, the bracket or clips prevent deflection of the SCSI cables connected to the host adapter card in the system.

Allow 24 hours for the clips to set before attaching the cables. Turn off the computer. Pull down the grooved tab and insert the cable into the clip.

  • Page 11 Insert the tab on the clamping bar into the corresponding slot in the bracket cradle and rotate the clamping bar into place as shown in Figure 8. Ensure that the screw hole in the clamping bar lines up with the screw hole in the bracket cradle. Secure the clamping bar to the bracket cradle with a Phillips-head screw.
